The 2026 Chamber Music Workshop Begins!
June is here, and as we approach the final stages of construction in Phase I, we opened the campus for the 2026 Chamber Music Workshop—with a few minor tweaks—welcoming 38 Young Artists to Shelter Island for the three-week residency. With the Campus Center kitchen and dining hall construction still in progress, we erected the Performance Tent early, and with the help of a mobile kitchen, converted it into a dining area.
Unphased by the construction, the Young Artists are progressing with their studies as usual. Rehearsals, coachings with Artist Faculty, group activities, and concerts remain unaffected. Last Friday’s sold-out Opening Concert proved a huge success. The warm reception and palpable excitement from our Shelter Island friends and neighbors was truly extraordinary.
Day by day, the Campus Center is outfitted with more siding, which now covers most of the sourthern exterior, wrapping around to the west and extending upward, and along the basement level to the east.
The recently-planted trees and shrubs provide a beautiful burst of green and really help to integrate the new building into the campus grounds. When work is complete, we expect it will look and feel as if the Campus Center has always been there.
The work on two faculty cabins is complete, and they’re beautiful! Artist faculty have moved in, and are enjoying their cosy new homes.
