Mid-May Updates
Campus is buzzing this month with exciting progress happening in nearly every corner. The lawns surrounding the campus center have been seeded, and the first sprouts are already visible on the Great Lawn! After a white, snowy winter, it’s great to see camp springing back to life with greenery and sunshine.
Speaking of sunshine, solar panels are being installed on the Campus Center roof to take advantage of it. These panels will provide sustainable energy for the building, keeping the student lounge cool and the coffee hot all summer long. Siding work has begun, and soon the red facade will be replaced by the beloved and familiar white siding and green trim.
Inside the Campus Center, we have the installation of the elevator and HVAC system, as well as insulation above the second floor rehearsal room.
Just outside the Campus Center, the porch is shaping up, both above and below deck. And the nearby landscaping includes the addition of a retaining wall, with perfect sunset views.
Next up, the recently graded driveways throughout the campus will be paved with asphalt. Permeable walking pathways will be installed, including the pathway from the Performance Tent to the long-awaited public restrooms.
Trees and shrubs are waiting to be planted to replace the few trees we lost during construction. Every tree lost will be replaced in-kind with native Shelter Island species.
