December Updates

December brought colder temperatures, winds, and snowfall to Shelter Island, but it wasn’t enough to slow the pace of construction on campus. Since our last update in mid-November, electric and heating work was completed in the faculty cabins and Welcome Center, and work continues on the I/A septic system. 

But there’s something else that has us beaming with excitement…

Steel beams have been placed to reinforce the concrete foundation of the Campus Center! At this rate, we’re well on track to have the project completed in time for our summer programs.

Next, the wooden framing will be added, revealing the building’s mass and floorplan, and the grounds surrounding the Campus Center will be graded. We expect that work to begin before the new year!
