2009 Annual Spring Benefit Concert and Dinner
Tuesday, March 31, 2009

On Tuesday, March 31, 2009, The Perlman Music Program held its Annual Spring Benefit Concert and Dinner. The evening began with an extraordinary chamber music performance by world-renown musicians, pianist Emanuel Ax, cellist Yo-Yo Ma, and violinist Itzhak Perlman at Carnegie Hall. The program featured two Mendelssohn pieces; the first a Piano Trio No. 1 in D Minor, Opus 49 and the second, Piano Trio, No. 2 in C Minor, Opus 66. The three virtuosi gave a truly unforgettable performance.

The concert was immediately followed by a Benefit Dinner at Daniel, which honored Emanuel Ax and Yo-Yo Ma as recipients of the 3rd Annual PMP Arts Make Music Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Arts. The dinner was an opportunity for all of PMP’s supporters to celebrate the Program’s continued growth and accomplishments. This special dinner was a perfect compliment to a wonderful evening filled with memorable music and exquisite food. The guests enjoyed a five-course, gourmet dinner of mâche salad with braised artichoke and black truffle vinaigrette, halibut with petit pois “a la française,” red wine braised short ribs with carrots, seared tenderloin, and crispy pommes pont neuf, all prepared by Chef Daniel Boulud.

Dinner guests included Eleanor and Garett Albert, Cally and Tom Aldrich, Yoko and Emanuel Ax and Family, Beth and Christopher Belisle, Christine and Randall Blank, Ann and Michael Bunyaner, Jim Clark and Kristy Hinze, Ian Cumming, Christina and David deForest Keys, Shoshana and Jay Dweck, Dr. Marjorie Fisher, Dorian and Gary Fuhrman, Janice Gerton, Barbara Gladstone, Howard Gottlieb, Mei Sze and Jeff Greene, Fanya Heller, Katherine Juhas, Heidi and David Castleman Klein, Yo-Yo Ma and Family, Howard Maisel and Eve France, Icim and Mark Miller, Pamela and Edward Pantzer, Toby and Itzhak Perlman, Adam Saper, Sheryl and Neil Sarnak, Laura Sloate, Sidney and Morgan Stark, Hanni and Michael Troise, and Svetlana and Herbert Wachtell.

Before the evening came to a close, the guests enjoyed a scrumptious dessert of hazelnut mousse with Gianduj, while Toby Perlman spoke briefly to thank all of the dedicated patrons of the Program. Immediately following dessert, Itzhak Perlman presented the 3rd Annual Arts Makes Music Award for Outstanding Contributions to the Arts to his long-time friends Emanuel Ax and Yo-Yo Ma.

““I have known Toby and Itzhak for many years now, and when Toby started PMP 15 years ago, we all knew she was embarking on something truly special. Her passion, energy, and vision are unrivaled.” PMP was pleased to recognize these brilliant musicians with this award.”

“It has been my pleasure to be involved with The Perlman Music Program and see it grow to new heights over the past 15 years. Toby and Itzhak transcend the role of musical instructor to provide these talented young people with encouragement, gentle guidance and life skills.”
