Itzhak Perlman, Conductor
Conducted by Mr. Itzhak Perlman, The Perlman Music Program String Orchestra is unlike most youth orchestras in that students are seated non-competitively and rotated with each movement of the piece they are studying. Doing this eliminates the “ranking” of students and gives each player the opportunity to experience both leading their sections from the front, and supporting their sections from the back.
The orchestra meets approximately three or four times a week after dinner. In past summers the orchestra has played such great works as: Beethoven’s Grosse Fuge, Schoenberg’s Varklarte Nacht, Schubert’s Death and the Maiden, Verdi’s String Quartet, and many many others.
The String Orchestra performs during the Summer Music School, the Sarasota Winter Residency, and at occasional special events during the Yearlong Mentorship Program.
