Merry Peckham, Coach
The Perlman Music Program believes that chamber music is an essential pedagogical tool for all music students. Along with solo practice, orchestra, and chorus, chamber music is a key part of a Summer Music School student’s education.
Chamber music not only teaches students how to deal with essential ensemble skills such as listening, matching, cueing, and balance, but rehearsing chamber music requires students to develop clear, constructive, and supportive communication skills.
During the Summer Music School, violin, viola, and cello students are assigned a chamber music group at the start of the summer, and reassigned to a new group every two weeks. Groups rehearse regularly during the week and receive several coachings a week from coach Merry Peckham. In addition, every group is given a chance to perform. Chamber music opportunities for bass-players are not guaranteed.
