Classical Dreams: Violin Virtuoso Itzhak Perlman Brings Music to Stowe

“Perlman and his wife and program director, Toby Perlman, together with their staff and faculty, will bring 24 of their alumni, all accomplished young string players between ages 18 and 25, to practice and perform [at the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center in Stowe, Vermont] over four days.”

2012 marked PMP’s second residency in Stowe, and the event was an outstanding success. In just four days, the students prepared and presented four public events to sold-out and enthusiastic audiences. Two open rehearsal welcomed members of the community into the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center to see the students rehearse masterworks by Tchaikovsky and Mozart with Mr. Perlman. During a special segment, young string students from all over Vermont performed with the PMP Orchestra. In another outreach event, players from the Vermont Youth Orchestra played Barber’s Adagio for Strings side-by-side with PMP students, all conducted and coached by Mr. Perlman. The students presented a chamber music concert, featuring works by Mozart, Brahms, Schubert and Smetana. For the residency’s finale, the PMP String Orchestra and Chorus performed under the direction of Maestros Itzhak Perlman and Patrick Romano.

The Perlman Music Program and The Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center are proud to recognize Sidney and Morgan Stark for initiating and supporting the PMP residency in Stowe, Vermont. We are grateful for their generosity and leadership, which allows us to share the extraordinary talent of The Perlman Music Program’s alumni with the Stowe community.
