Designed and led by Director Toby Perlman and Associate Director Merry Peckham, this five-day residency offers PMP alumni a unique opportunity to study and perform within a nurturing and supportive musical community. Rehearsals and performances are held at the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center, a vibrant new hall and cultural space in the heart of beautiful Stowe, Vermont. Members of the Program’s world-class faculty are on hand, inspiring participants to achieve new levels of creative excellence.
Participants sing in chorus directed by Maestro Patrick Romano, perform in orchestra under the baton of Maestro Itzhak Perlman, and study chamber music masterpieces with Merry Peckham. In addition to a schedule packed with performances and rehearsals, the musicians have time to explore the vibrant community of Stowe.
Last year marked PMP’s inaugural residency in Stowe, and the event was an outstanding success. In just four days, the students prepared and presented three public events to sold-out and enthusiastic audiences. An open rehearsal welcomed members of the community into the Spruce Peak Performing Arts Center to see the students rehearse masterworks by Tchaikovsky and Mozart with Mr. Perlman. During a special segment of the event, young string students from all over Vermont performed with the PMP Orchestra. Later that day, the students presented a chamber music concert, featuring works by Beethoven, Brahms, Mendelssohn, Dvorak, and Shostakovich. For the residency’s finale, the PMP String Orchestra and Chorus performed under the direction of Maestros Itzhak Perlman and Patrick Romano.
