The Summer Music School@PMP "I think many young musicians have talent that is not nurtured, |
| Young musicians of talent need support. Left alone with their gift, without the instruction and mentoring that will allow them to thrive, even the most exceptional young artists will struggle. Many may fail to achieve their full musical potential. Without this next generation of world-class musicians, the musical world and its audiences will be the poorer.
The Summer Music School@PMP welcomes young musicians of rare and special talent into a richly supportive musical community. Through an intensive summer program, year-round mentoring, and on occasion, an international study/performance tour, the program offers unparalleled musical training for students, ages 12 to 18, who play the violin, viola, cello, and bass. With a faculty led by Itzhak Perlman and comprising some of the most gifted musical talents of our time, the Summer Music School@PMP offers an artistic and personal experience that changes students' lives forever. The Summer Music School@PMP seeks to ensure that the very best musicians can take advantage of this opportunity, regardless of their economic background or financial means. |

Overview of Student Population and Scholarship Support
| The Summer Music School@PMP prides itself on providing an intense and comprehensive musical experience for a carefully-selected group of promising musicians. Each year forty young musicians, ages 11 to 18, are invited to participate in the Summer Music School@PMP. The student body is kept small to ensure a high level of personal support, attention and access, with a student-faculty ration of nearly 1:3. The selection process is competitive and rigorous: last year, more than 400 applicants vied for the few open places, which because most students want to stay in the Summer Music School@PMP, usually only occur when a student reaches 18 years of age.
Admission to The Summer Music School@PMP is based solely on musical talent. Admissions decisions are made on a need-blind basis, and no student has ever been turned away for lack of ability to pay. A full 82% of the student body (approximately thirty-three students each year) receives full or partial scholarship support. |
