The Perlman Music Program

Founded by Toby Perlman 18 years ago, The Perlman Music Program offers unparalleled musical training to young string players of rare and special talent. With a world-class faculty led by Itzhak Perlman, the New York City and Shelter Island, NY based program seeks to develop the future leaders of classical music, all within a nurturing and supportive musical community.

The Perlman Music Program’s core educational initiatives – the Summer Music School, Chamber Music Workshop, and the Alumni Concerts Festival – are held during the summer months at a 28-acre campus on Shelter Island, New York. The Program also runs a student recital series in New York City, an alumni concert series at distinguished concert venues nationwide, and an annual 3-week winter residency in Sarasota, Florida. New residences and concerts are currently being developed in Vermont, Texas, Israel, and other locales. The Program’s activities also include summertime public outreach concerts on the East End of Long Island, and three annual benefit fundraising events held in New York City, the East End of Long Island, and Palm Beach, Florida.

The Development Office is seeking a full-time intern for the 2012 summer season (June-August). We are seeking an energetic and responsible individual who has a strong interest in fundraising, special events, and public outreach, and is a team-oriented individual with exceptional organizational and communication skills.

Responsibilities will include:

• Help facilitate regular mailings to program friends and donors
• Draft, design, and edit letters, invitations, and concert programs
• Assist with special events by checking in guests and providing support as needed
• Work on PR and marketing for the program by drafting press releases, pitching stories to media outlets, and updating media listings
• Follow up with donors and prospects via phone and email
• Write articles for the seasonal newsletter
• Assist with writing grant proposals
• Perform and gather research on donors and prospects
• Provide general administrative support to the Development Department as needed
• On at least two weekends per month, assist with student concerts at The Perlman Music Program campus on Shelter Island, NY (transportation, accommodations, and meals are provided)

We are seeking an enthusiastic and responsible individual who has a strong interest in learning how a non-profit development department runs.
The ideal applicant must possess the following skill-set:

• Professional demeanor, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication skills
• Ability to multi-task, prioritize, and problem-solve in a fast-paced work environment
• Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and Outlook)

Additional experience with the following is a plus but not required:
• Working knowledge of Raiser’s Edge or a similar database
• Knowledge of Adobe Photoshop, Illustrator and/or InDesign
• Interest in the arts and classical music

This internship opportunity offers a daily stipend.
